Job Purpose:
The Medical advisor (MA) provides medical affairs services, medical support that helps to ensure the safe & effective use of GSK’s medicines, through effective scientific interactions with external experts, to provide support to clinical development in site selection with investigator nominations, & conducting GSK clinical trials, in addition to providing scientific support for GSK internal stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities :
- Provide product & disease area information to external customers. This need is met primarily through direct scientific interactions with healthcare professionals (HCPs), including data presentations & responding to enquiries.
- The MA is a scientific expert in the disease/therapy area(s), clinical practice & competitor landscape. Through his/her expertise & external interactions he/she will develop insights which will assist in the development & execution of innovative Medical Affairs strategies & plans that clearly support GSK development of medicines of value for vaccines & HCPs.
- The language & activities of the MA must always reflect the medical nature of the role, be fair, balanced, scientific & evidence-based. MA must ensure full compliance with GSK Code, SOPs & local laws & regulations for all country medical & promotional activities, and in line with the principles of Scientific Engagement.
- The MA should manage in-market activities in line with approved MAP as follows:
-- Implement the strategic directions required for successful commercialization of the CNS & Urology portfolio within Saudi markets aiming to achieve company objectives.
-- Support the implementation of the Clinical Trials program, Pharmacovigilance & Medical Affairs activities.
- Provide the necessary support to Marketing & Sales departments & other internal stakeholders.
- Establish GSK as a key player in the Therapy Area & enhance the scientific image of GSK among Healthcare Professionals & key external experts.
- Support MG in all promotional & marketing activities and aim to foster the ethical & scientific image of GSK.
Internal Client Group :
- Work with cross functional teams to identify the External Experts, professional groups, decision makers & other key stakeholders are in their assigned therapy area & / or geography.
- Develop & implement effective Medical Affairs planning.
- Deliver Scientific Engagement aligned documentation of all interactions with HCPs.
- Prepare & conduct scientific training to the GSK sales representatives regarding GSK products & the conditions they treat utilizing approved Sales Training materials.
External Customer Base :
1) General
- MA upholds GSK’s commitment to the values of patient focus, transparency & integrity in all interaction & exchange of information between GSK & external communities.
KEEs (Key External Experts) Interactions
- Conducts peer-to-peer, robust scientific dialogue with external experts (e.g. HCPs, Payer, Patient groups), to generate insights & secure advice that informs GSK’s development of medicines for the ultimate benefit of patients.
- Conducts individual (1:1 type) proactive / reactive discussions & meetings with GSK contracted clinical study investigators, steering committee members, advisory board members, consultants etc, on topics related to the work being conducted with GSK.
- Communicate safety data to HCP (preferably in group setting); including, Dear Healthcare Provider Letter (DHPL).
- Delivers scientific presentation to formulary committees if appropriate for therapy area & LOC.
- Facilitates, presents at, or otherwise participates in GSK-sponsored Advisory Boards where appropriate & in full alignment with Scientific Engagement principles & operating practices.
- MA can attend scientific meetings to gather information on recent data being presented on products & disease states of interest to GSK or to address HCP’s unsolicited questions regarding GSK products within the Medical Affairs/scientific/Medical Information booth.
- For proactive group presentations at promotional meetings, the MA can act as the GSK expert & pro-actively present to HCPs about our products & their disease areas (on label)
- The MA brings value, protects GSK reputation, & builds trust by providing scientifically accurate, fair-balanced, on-label information, regarding the safety & efficacy of GSK products & off-label information in response to unsolicited questions only.
2) Medical Information:
- Responds in a timely & accurate manner, to unsolicited requests for on or off-label information or safety concerns from HCPs in verbal, written or presentation forms, in 1:1 or group setting, & to document these responses on Content Lab.
3) Clinical Operations:
- MA may support clinical development activities by participating in the site identification & assessment process, addressing subject retention & other scientific issues in partnership with study management & monitoring.
- May also assist in the development of research project proposals & forward them to appropriate Medical Affairs staff for funding consideration.
- Identify gaps that need Key Evidence Generation studies as effectiveness studies, health outcome studies & health economic studies.
4) Complexity:
- The position requires a person with appropriate TA medical knowledge. Some experience in the Saudi markets is an addition
- Work in a multi-cultural & multi-departmental environment
- Medium complex job with reasonable accountability

- Diverse operational functions, clinical trials, KEE relationships, training, therapy area building, therapeutic committees & formulary introduction Results oriented and entrepreneurial, can do attitude
- Flexible thinking oriented to continuous improvement and driving changes across cross functional stakeholders
- Strategic thinking, analytical, problem solving and decision-making ability
- Good time management skills, with ability to multi-task and work under pressure
- Willingness to travel
- Driving License
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills :
- The MA is a member of the medical team at GSK with a Healthcare Discipline (Medical /Pharmacy/Related Science) degree, expertise in the therapy area, undersetting of medicine development including the clinical trial process
- Experience in the Therapy Area in the Pharmaceutical Industry is a plus.
- Fluent English & Arabic (written & oral) level.
- Good Computer skills (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
- Good communication skills, with high ability to convey messages successfully to all internal & external stakeholders.
Experience :
- Pharma role experience for at least 3 years
- TA knowledge is a plus
